Strathcona Girls Grammar extends a warm congratulations to Kara Baxter, Dean of Teaching and Learning, for being listed as a winner on The Educator’s 2024 Hot List.

Kara is among one of 50 winners receiving this award across Australia, recognising the outstanding work and research of individuals in the education sector and highlights their work as best in the industry, ensuring students and families have exceptional educational experiences.

Kara’s dedication to Strathcona Girls Grammar is highly admirable as she is committed to advancing education through strategic collaboration and is guided by the belief that learning inspires curiosity, ignites passion, and encourages independent thinking and creativity.

‘Being part of the Strathcona community is a privilege and I am inspired daily by the curiosity and passion of our students, and the dedication of our teachers,’ Kara said.

Since assuming her role in January 2023, Kara has introduced a new professional learning model that emphasises collaboration for all teachers and professional staff across the School, including leadership development and driving continuous growth among educators. Kara adds, ‘To receive this recognition highlights the power of collaboration and innovation in creating transformative educational experiences at Strathcona.’

Kara tells us she is driven by the motivation that students can achieve their full potential when they belong to an environment that is inclusive, challenging, and responsive to their needs. ‘At Strathcona, we believe in creating a culture where teachers are empowered to learn, lead, and inspire. I feel that when educators thrive, so do students, and that’s at the heart of everything we do.’

As Dean of Teaching and Learning for years Prep to Year 12, Kara’s initiative also includes leading the Strathcona Innovation Collective, expanding STEAM and e-sports programs, and integrating new subjects in Middle School that nurture inquiry, self-awareness, and social responsibility.

‘I believe that education is about more than academic success; it’s about equipping students with the skills, values, and confidence to navigate and shape the world around them,’ Kara said. ‘By encouraging creativity, collaboration, and resilience, we are preparing our students to be future leaders.’
